As COVID continues to impact the day-to-day lives of many, a KIPRC and College of Public Health pilot project is looking at how the pandemic could have negative effects on the well-being of older adults living independently at home. Caitlin Pope, PhD, the lead investigator of the project, said there is concern for community-dwelling older adults living with limited financial resources and how they are at a disadvantage as they interact with the community for their livelihood. She said many of those adults are frequent users of community resources and programs. The pilot project focuses on psychosocial well-being in lower-income, community-dwelling older adults in the Lexington area. Specifically, Pope and co-investigator Beth Hunter, PhD, are interested in resiliency as it is associated with better physical and psychosocial outcomes in older adult samples.
